Radio 1’s Big Weekend Norwich

Tomorrow (23rd May) is the start of the two day event, which brings the biggest bands and solo artists in the world right now, to Earlham Park, Norwich. With the likes of Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters, Muse and Florence and the Machine headlining the event, there is no wonder there is such a buzz around the city right now. Not only are our lucky locals that managed to get tickets excited for the event, but local businesses will be booming over the bank holiday weekend; with 50,000 people attending the Big Weekend over two days.

In fact, according to Norwich City Council leader Brenda Arthur, the Big Weekend could bring in £3.5m to the local economy!

As well as local hotels, restaurants, shops and other businesses benefiting from the event, some entrepreneurial residents will also be reaping in some extra cash by offering their parking spaces, driveways, and even rooms in their homes to stay over the weekend to people coming from other counties!

Norwich’s young people also had the chance to join in with the Radio 1 buzz with Radio 1’s Academy – a mix of workshops, events and Q&A’s at the Open Academy in Norwich – this included sessions from the Radio 1 DJs.

We took our GML mascot, Woody, down to Earlham Park yesterday to get a sneaky peak at the preparations going on. This is what we got a glimpse of – the In New Music We Trust stage and more…
